ABOUT THE ARTIST/MAKER

Jeff Amos retired from a short career in wildlife biology after university to engage in a lifetime of making. While in university in the early '70's, the student darkrooms lit a bonfire of creative imagery. By the end of his science degree, he was buying the first of many furniture making books for no other reason than inner directive.

Following university, a couple of years were spent immersed in the wilderness of northern British Columbia. Living alone, building the much dreamed of log cabin on the edge of the beaver pond, with its rough furniture, was the beginning of connecting the natural world and the inner world. Expressing this connecting and understanding has been developing in photography and with wood since 1976 in Nova Scotia.

Things of wood have spread throughout Canada, United States, and Europe. Through the years, various shows in Ontario and Nova Scotia, magazine appearances, and collectors have taken his images throughout Canada, United States, Europe and Asia.

Jeff Amos earned his BSc. from Carleton University, Ottawa under the apprenticeship of Dr. Gray Merriam. His apprenticeship with wood was gained in front of his bench, and is still ongoing. Together they have completed their first book, "Discovering Natural Processes", and are working on their second.

An accomplished, intense photographer, he is always looking deeper and deeper through the layers.
The pursuit continues, with no foreseeable end.
