ARTIST STATEMENT:

“Living things and their habitats are the subject and inspiration for my paintings. My response to the natural world has traditionally been at the heart of my practise. However, another strong influence has impacted my work as of Late: it was during a three year period in Korea, after repeated visits to study ancient traditional ink paintings, that I began to develop the subtly modulated values and extensive use of white that characterizes my work today. Asian art has also reinforce my love of abstraction, shifting grounds, disappearing and reappearing forms. It is this combination of broad eastern influences applied to very particular western concerns that I hope will engage and stimulate the viewer.”
