ABOUT THE ARTIST
Having completed a degree in Fine Arts at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (NASCAD) in 1994, Allyson moved to Iqaluit to teach jewellery making at Nunavut Arctic College. Her own jewellery and sculptural pieces have since been influenced by images of the Baffin Island and Western Arctic landscape: the juxtaposition of rock, vegetation, water and the vast Arctic Sky. Allyson works primarily with stones from the Arctic in combination with silver and gold, paying special attention to detail, texture and inlay.
An award winning artist, Allyson has had the honour of being included in a number of collaborative projects with a other Northern artists. Recent group work includes the mace for the NWT Legislative Assembly, and representation of the official flower of Nunavut in amethyst, silver and gold, for the Territorial legislature.
Having returned home to live and work in Nova Scotia, Allyson’s most recent creation, is her beautiful daughter, Leslie.
