ABOUT THE ARTIST:

After retiring from a career in the Canadian Navy in 1998, Steven completed the Fine Furniture Program at Camosun College in Victoria, BC. He has been a resident of Mahone Bay since 1999, working in town by day as a pewtersmith. At nights and weekends he can be found in his home workshop creating beautiful wooden works of art.

ARTIST STATEMENT:

“A simple design, craftsmanship and attention to detail are the essential fundamentals I endeavor to focus on. I feel my most successful works have come about by taking extra care in selecting the wood needed for a project. I then allow the natural shape, patterns, and colours found in the wood to influence the design. My most gratifying reward from working with wood, is seeing my creations in everyday use.”
